Lois Macaulay, allied member of the distinguished international association, the American Society of InteriorDesigners,is noted for designing temporary homes for visiting celebrities such as Halle Berry, Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Goodman, Hayden Kristiansen and Natalie Portman (featured in October Chatelaine) as well as distinctive residential and business interiors. The showroom at 98 Avenue Road, three blocks south of Davenport Road, showcases her own line of contemporary furniture plus art, important pieces for the garden, and antiques in modern upholstery. "Spare is wonderful," says Lois, "but I can't help falling in love with highly decorative pieces. I show both."

While Macaulay produces sofas, chairs, tables and lamps with forwardstyling, the quality and prices are controlled by her watchful supervision of local independent craftsmen ("looks luxe with its beautiful upholstered pieces but is pleasingly priced" - Style at Home). Doors open to the public everyafternoon from 12 to 6 with the exception of Tuesday and Sunday, although a doorbell ring might find her in the design office before noon. "I need to be free to visit worksites and source materials in the mornings. Mine is a very personal service." Macaulay has been designing in the Toronto area for over a decade and previously in California and Hawaii. She has appeared on HGTV's Design Match, This Small Space and Decorating Challenge. Her design work has been featured in The Globe, Chatelaine, Style at Home, Hilary Magazine and Yorkville News. Trained in both art and design, Lois lectures at public art galleries and writes regular features for the ASID website and newsletter (www. asid-nyu-ce.org) reporting design directions for the profession. She serves on the board of ASID New York Upstate/Canada East Chapter, and the museum, Masterworks Bermuda.
