Daybeds are the New Sofabeds

For decades we have lived with the limitations of sofabeds. They are not as comfortable as sofas for sitting and really less desirable than beds for sleeping. They are heavy and hard to move. They make the second bedroom look dowdy and crowd out the office space. There was room for a guest. But also room for improvement.

Enter the daybed!

Style one: Sleek leather, button tufted, steel legs, fits anywhere. Zippy in the home office where it accomodates six stacks of files for the intense deadline days. Sits against the hall wall under the row of black and white photographs looking very art gallery-esque. Blends into the living room across from the comfy sofa, leaving an unobstructed skyline view. Add a sheet set for the old college friend who is passing through town.

Style two: Hand forged wrought iron with ends that slant outward in a taught thirties-inspired curve. Very comfortable matress-boxspring-in-one sleeper with a luxe cover fabric from Telio et Cie. Light to the eye, easy to move around, and a great place to curl up with a magazine. Comfortable enough to use every night in a small space. Elegant enough to combine with Post Road decor.

Style three: Antique French Louis XV daybed with blue velvet cover is tres gentil. Great set in spacious loft surroundings with spare modern companion pieces, like the lucite Louis chair, or crowded warmly together with other antiquities. Spending the night on feathers may be just the thing to put your special guest in a very hospitable mood.

Lois Macaulay Design Showroom, down the brick walkway at 30a Hazelton Avenue, is a favourite source for art and design afficiondos, like Kate Sumerville of Turquoise Gallery, Tom Antony of Peregrin Investments, and Simon Rowland of Direct Leap Technologies.
